Iran- Yazd

After Kerman we took the bus to Yazd. This is also a very special palace. Situated in a desert, this “mud” city perfectly blends in the landscape. Walking around the old sun-dried mud brick city is an exceptional experience. You really feel out of this world (pretty much like in Star Wars). The Badgirs (ancient natural air-conditioning installations) surrounding the houses are extremely (and in one way surprisingly) efficient. We also visited the Masjed-e Jameh mosque, the disappointing Alexander’s prison and the very famous Ateshkadeh (Zoroastrian Fire Temple) where the “eternal” flame still burns. It is clear that one of the biggest challenges in an arid place like this is the irrigation and water supply. We got very interesting information about it in the Water museum.
