Sri Lanka- Kandy

We  stayed 2 nights in Kandy and enjoyed it very much. The climate is way cooler than on the coast. Walking around and discovering the area, we spent some good days here before we headed to Negombo for our last stay in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka- … on the way to Kandy

From Mirissa we headed north to the “hilly” center of the island. Our goal was to reach Kandy. In order to do so, we took the bus to Matara and then an other one to Ella where we stayed overnight in a lovely homestay. On the next morning we boarded the train for a 7 hours ride to Kandy which was nothing short of beautiful. Over the hills and through tea plantations- we were offered breathtaking views and landscapes.

Sri Lanka- Mirissa

In Mirissa we finally went out to the sea, though not for diving but for whale watching. We were quite lucky and saw a couple of blue whales, many dolphins (Sprinters) and were followed by 3 killer whales (better known as Orcas). The early morning wake-up was totally worth it- a breathtaking experience.

Sri Lanka- Galle

The fort area of Galle is beautifully romantic. The small streets, the little cafés, the discrete shops; we were happy to wander around this small haven of tranquility, knowing that passed the entrance gate bustling traffic, noise and people are everywhere.

Sri Lanka- Hikkaduwa

On our way south, we stopped in a small village, Hikkaduwa. Apart from diving there was not much to do there, except walking along the beach. As the sea was quite rough and the weather not so bright we decided to move on quickly.

Sri Lanka- Colombo

After spending almost 3 months in the Philippines we started heading westwards. Sri Lanka had been on our to-go list for a long time already, so we were quite excited to discover this tear-shaped island. After spending a night in KL we hopped over to this new destination. Colombo- the capital- was our first stop.

We visited a quite disappointing national museum and gazed around this new city.

We used our stay here to arrange for the visa for our next destination: Iran. Fortunately, this was totally effortless.
