After almost three months on the island we left Apo more than heavyhearted. Well, the sea and island lifestyle will for
sure be missed. Tough leaving all the people who made Apo our 'home' was the
hardest part. Of course, we had one last celebration- the despedida – on which
we were treated with lechon and mangofloat and for which we did prepare yummy
pasta (aka Espagetti). We hereby thank
all of our Apo-friends for their hospitality and kindness and their singing and
dancing talents in the morning, in the afternoon or at night. Apo is (and will
be) our Asian home:-) and we will be back soon, as we miss you already now!
Of all our stays on Apo Island the most
impressive happening was Fiesta (April 4 and 5). This fiest is actually dedicated
to the patron of the Island, San Vincente Ferrer. Indeed we could not have
imagined a more dramatic change of our beloved and peaceful 'home'. For two
days our only occupation was eating yummy lechon (suckling pig) and drinking
Tanduay Rum (even Cheun couldn't stay abstinent). But don't think this whole
event was relaxing and easy going! Not at all - it was stressful! ;-) We had to manage a
very loaded schedule: on the fifth alone we went eating/drinking/laughing at 6 different
places.... and tired of all that pork we still managed to dance and party at
the basketball court transformed in a 'discotheque'.
The long silent
treat on this blog is not due to laziness. In fact - early February- we
returned to our favourite Filipino island - Apo Island- which we extensively
wrote about on previous posts. This time we are 'working class'; as newly
accredited PADI Instructors we immediately started teaching scuba diving and
certified almost 20 New Divers (in the first month alone). As you can imagine
we were really busy... but above all, it was LOADS OF FUN!
